Stuck
Stuck is a funny word. I’m sitting here trying to figure out what I want to say and I’m just staring at that big “Stuck” up there in the title. It even looks funny to me. <eye roll> What a dork.
So my point is, I’m stuck. I’m not losing. I even went up two pounds over the weekend, but this morning, they were gone. Jennifer thinks I’m not eating enough calories and my metabolism could be freaking out in starvation mode. So I’m upping my calories by about 400 per day - which to me, is a whole other meal. But what I’m going to do is fill that up with healthy proteins and fats - like fish and nuts and low fat cheese. (Which, btw Jen, I’m with you on that - low fat cheese sucks). I do LOVE the laughing cow low fat swiss… only 35 calories per triangle.
I’m not feeling bad though because this is a journey. It’s a lifelong commitment. It’s a way of life and all that other blah blah blah that we need to accept. My mom (whom I adore) says maybe I’m still eating TOO much. I told her that I’m averaging between 900-1100 calories per day - it would be SO hard to go for LESS than that, ya know? But mom weighs a happy 150.
Gonna try the adding more calories and continuing to exercise and see how that goes.
I hope everyone’s having a great week!
Hi Lena
I agree with Jennifer that you need to up your calorie intake.
I was in the same boat as you for awhile and I wasn’t able to lose weight when I wasn’t eating enough.
I keep a food journal and being able to refer back to that helps me so much.
I could clearly see in it that when I was under 1200 calories I wasn’t losing weight no matter whatelse I did.
Soon as I upped them I started losing.
I know how frustrating it is to be ’stuck’ but that will change just stick with it.
Let us know how it goes k?
Lori

Keep going Lena. I think that because it’s a journey, you can experiment and add 400 cal a day for a week and see if it works for you. Some people do zig-zag diet to move bodies from the set point… try different things. You have nothing to lose (no pun intended) if you try some other healthy ways of changing your diet.

I think uping the calories is a great idea and I wouldn’t go below 1200. And even if you reach that point and you are still a little hungry, I think it’s better to feed yourself a little more to make that hunger pain go away some (but not late night though when your metabolism starts slowing down). If your body is hungry it will go into starvation mode and start storing calories. Your mom may think you are eating too much because she’s thinking like the old way just like my mom did. Back when they were younger they would cut out all kinds of eating because they thought that food alone was causing all the weight gain. My mom was proud when she just had a little something. But now we know it’s really about the kinds of food we are eating and about portion control and not starving. I hope you get all the bugs worked out in your plan. It’s a learning process.
I hear it over and over again………….don’t go below 1200 calories.
I agree with the others, eating a few more will help you lose weight and make you a lot happier because you will not be starving all the time
Life is a journey and losing weight is part of it but so is eating and eating enough to keep on with the journey is important!
Enough philosophy! You can do it and you will one step at a time.
My beautiful buddy Lena, you’re not stuck girlfriend! You’re just in idle at the moment and looking for ways to start rolling along again.
I’m with Jenn… up those calories to 1200-1400 at least. The only low fat cheese I will eat is low fat swiss or fat free swiss, low fat or non fat cottage cheese. All the others just taste like rubber to me. I would just as soon have NO cheese as to have rubber on top of my food. LOL Although nuts are very good for you, they are also very VERY high in fat and calories, so maybe try them as a once a week “treat” only? Also, look into your calcium. It’s very important. I was stuck there for awhile, and after some research figured out I wasn’t getting enough good calcium. I had pretty much quit drinking milk altogether, so added a cup of 2% milk per day to my diet (it is my bedtime treat). That helped tremendously. And one other suggestion. If you are doing the same exercising every day, try switching it up a bit, do something different one day, then another thing the next.
Soooooo proud of you for your attitude Lena. This IS a journey, and it’s all about finding out what does and does not work for you. Keep tweaking it all around until you find your nitch girl. Smile at mommy and thank her for her advice, then up those calories. LOL
Huggggggggggggggggggggs,
Shan
i know how you feel…..its so funny how we are going through the same stuff…lol
i was eating more to try to lose …didnt work….
i guess im going back to eating less….
hope we start losing again!!!!!!
Ok I know that less food seems the way to go, but 1100 calories is definately NOT enough for you, or me or any woman. You need to eat MORE, and 400 more sounds good. I try to eat 1400-1600 (when I am having a good day!) and I am losing. Please listen to your body, I think its telling you to feed it more food!!! Our bodies are weird, you know?? I can eat hardly anything and not lose anything, then pig out and lose, go figure!! But also consider that if its that time in your cycle you are up in water weight anyway. Being stuck happens a lot, so just go with the flow!

I don’t think you’re eating enough and perhaps your body is in starvation mode….soooooo, maybe it’s time to re-evaluate. Isn’t it funny how people who don’t have a weight problem offer advice on how to lose weight? It’s like people who don’t have children and are generous with advice on how to raise them! Go figure!! I’m sure your mom means well…just like mine meant well when she completely dismissed my new adventure of doing the AIDS/Lifecycle and suggested that I concentrate on giving her another grandchild—ARGH!!! LOL!
If you have seen your doctor and you are a healthy individual YOU ARE NOT EATING TOO MUCH….hehe
I think we have to listen to our bodies and I am no expert, but nutritionist do say that falling bellow 1200 is not so good.
You have to find what works. There are sites I am sure that will help with determing the number of calories needed to safely lose weight and I am a firm believer in weight watchers number of points/calories needed for any person at a given weight. But there are so many factors like activity and lifestyle (occupation). You will figure it out
I suspect your body will tell you what is the correct amount of food as you really begin with the activity. I eat until I feel satisfied (ya know when I am in my good place) NOT full, but satisfied. Sometimes I rely on the numbers of usual points I need, because if I am down/sad, I want and want and only the number will make it a done meal. lol
I am sorry you gained. That really blows! Maybe exercise is the key to revving up your metabolism. When people who have quite a bit to lose start (And this did happen to me when I started California Fitness years ago) to exercise they can gain. I was told it was muscle. Anyways eventually it started to come off thank goodness.
It is a journey and I wish you much success this coming weight in.
*hugs*
