Tastebud Surgery… ?

A co-worker of mine and I were talking about things that could help with weight loss.  Yesterday morning, as we were walking back from the cafeteria… me with my egg whites & low fat cheese and fat free yogurt, she with her oatmeal and bacon… I said I wish I could find the miracle cure to achieving success with weight loss.  A stupid notion popped into my head right at the point and I said “laser tastebud removal”.  She laughed so hard she almost spit out her coffee.  She told me I was a dork.  But hey, wouldn’t it be cool if we could control our tastebuds?  I’m thinking, like those pop-up sprinklers that come up out of the ground when it’s time to water, then go back down.  We should have a tastebud switch.  But, alas, I don’t think removing or controlling our tastebuds would remove the insane cravings we have, do you?

I’m thinking of starting a whole foods eating regimen.  My problem is not liking/wanting to cook.  I wish I could find some good, whole food, frozen dinners.  I guess I could make my own?  I’ll let y’all know how it goes.  I’m still researching and trying to figure out how it’ll work for me.

Happy Saturday!

**DISCLAIMER** This blog was meant to be stupid and dorky and was just a general rambling of thoughts.  In no way would I advocate tastebud removal.  I was not serious.  <shaking head>

I think taste is a beautiful thing that you could would never want to loose. I also think you eating it more about filling us up or the chemical reactions that we get from eating food - rather than the actual taste. I think we attribute it to taste, but I wolf food down (like a lot of people) instead of savoring the flavour.

As for healthy food. I think you need to cook your own food. Its the only way you can know exactly whats going into your food and there won’t be many preservatives, etc…

I find stirfrys are so easy and tasty. What do you like to eat and don’t mind cooking? Maybe, I could help suggest some easy healthy things to cook. I eat lots of fish - not sure if you like that?

    Cheers

    Matt

I hear Matt (above) about cooking your own foods, and I try to do that - but I always keep some of the Kashi brand frozen dinners in my fridge. They have brown rice/etc - and I think they’re pretty tasty. I like to have one and add a HUGE serving of veggies to make sure it fills me up.

Oh, and as for taste buds - I think you’d eat more because you’d be trying to satisfy your craving for something to “hit the spot”.

**REACTION** I like the stupid/dorky rambling - keep it coming!!

My dear dorky rambler fwiend… hmmmmmm… I wonder how many actual people are going to read then and then do some googling on the internet? LMAO! And speaking of LMAO… wouldn’t it be great if we could actually DO that? LOLOLOL

If you do not like to cook, then whole foods is a good choice. It’s quick and easy, and most times you don’t even have to cook. Have you ever tried eating raw sugar snap peas? To die for… Most of my snacks and lunches are raw veggies and/or fruit. No cooking required, although a little preparation in chopping. But hey, most of it can be done and containerized, as long as it is consumed within 2-3 days. Steaming veggies takes very little time. Baking fish takes very little time. Lemme put my thinking cap on and see what else I can come up with. Love it that you are thinking about whole foods. SOOOOOOO good for you. In my fast paced life, I can do completely whole foods, but I can get pretty darn close. :)

Hugggggggggggggs and love your blogs girl,

Ok, this is hilarious but sounds like something I might try if it were actally available and would work. Consult with a physician and patent the idea NOW!!!!!!!
This made me consider, “would that stop me from wanting to eat?” Would the fact that I can no longer taste my favorites make me stop wanting them? Probably not. I think we have been so conditioned to stick some food in the old pie hole that even removing the little tasting suckers would not stop us from eating. Unfortunately, you have to eat to live whether you can taste it or not. Maybe someday we can evolve into beings where you can just push a banana in your ear and satisfy your need for food, but until then I guess we’ll just have to suffer through tasting all the good things with which God has blessed the earth.

I admire your desire to go the whole foods route.
    It sounds good and healthy.

I’ve often said that, If food didn’t taste so darn good then I wouldn’t want to overeat. Its really not the foods fault, its my fault. And I sure wish I could blame it on the food for me wanting it so bad, but I’m just a slave to the food. Its a bad situation, but a balance that I’ve gotta live my life with. I’m sure you know it too, but its a funny thought to consider what would really happen if we couldn’t taste anything? I do think we would be miserable, because I do enjoy tasty healthy foods also!
About cooking for 1, I have to cook for 4 so I don’t have a lot of suggestions. Just for lunch we all kinda do our own thing. I have lots of frozen dinners for lunch, for dinners have you thought of using a george foreman grill to make some chicken, its to die for on that thing. Or do you have a Sam’s club or costco? They have great frozen fish thats flavored in an individual packet, just thaw and throw in the oven, compliment with a veggie and a starch if you want. I’ve had this before when I just had to cook for myself, and sometimes I wish I only had to cook for myself, my family is picky!!! (I love fish, they on the other hand DON’T!) Hope this helps!

Hehe…. but the idea is incredibly thought provoking and I LOVE it, even if it is silly. We all need a good laugh. We just have to be prepared with an empty mouth. I will make sure I swallow my green tea ;)

The whole food idea is neat because I for one get excited with only REAL food going in, ya know. I think you have it right on. Making your own will be a great idea. I love chillies and stews. Pasta seems to not freeze well, but brown rice does. I still like and eat pasta even though it is not whole. I just think when cooked at home it still a better option then going out for a high fat pasta dish. So I wish you all the best with your creations.

There are some darn fine prepared foods out there that just make life easier and can light the load of prep.

The other thing that I do not do well is to wash and cut veggies into large chunks say on a Sunday so that the week is easier when it comes to this food group. Fruit is usually easy I find, but those veggies take so much time.

    Anyways… all the best. ;)
